LED Lighting

As technology advances, so too does our understanding of the world around us. We are constantly in need of fine tuning our ability to manipulate that technology to better suit our needs. This is true from the most rudimentary inventions to more complex systems such as automobiles. The challenge continues to be how to constantly improve and craft variations of this technology that will be a larger benefit to the world as a whole. Although the automobile, just like bread or lighting, has certainly had a profound impact on the evolution of modern civilization, it has also come with some negative impacts as well. This includes energy consumption and damaging pollution.

LED Lighting

In order to combat these obstacles designers and engineers have worked to create concepts that are better equipped to handle these challenges, such as the electric car. Now as more advances have evolved there have been some profound changes with other technological fields such as replacing the vastly inefficient traditional incandescent light bulb with highly superior LED lights. LEDs (light emitting diodes) have not only become incredibly popular, they are gradually being used in a vast array of areas that have for a long time been strictly the domain of traditional incandescent bulbs.

These lights have been thought by consumers as being too expensive to be a viable replacement for traditional lighting but production costs have dramatically decreased and coupled with the creation of super bright LED lights there finally looks like a shift in domestic lighting.

LED Lighting

There are several aspects to LED technology that are attractive to designers and consumers. To begin with incandescent bulbs will exceed their initial purchase cost by as much as 10 times during the course of their lifetime. One of the first alternatives, the compact fluorescent bulb, used 75% less power then the standard bulb making it a substantially better investment. It also had the potential to last as much as 6 times longer. In comparison LED light bulbs last over 10 longer then compact fluorescent bulbs and are created without a filament. This aspect alone enables them to be constructed out a solid piece and gives them unprecedented durability. A standard household bulb will typically last for as long as 750 hours, whereas a cluster of LED lights generating the same amount of visible light will last as long as 100,000 hours. That is a profound difference. To further compare the two ends of the lighting spectrum a 20 watt bulb generating enough light to read would require only 1.5 watts of power to create the same amount of light using LEDs.

LED lights are cost effective, energy efficient, and extremely long lasting. This makes them an ideal replacement for nearly any creation. One aspect that has been attracting auto enthusiasts is LED lighting’s ability to be incredibly flexible in color, placement, and ability. Now you are beginning to see them as replacement lighting in RVs due to the reduction of energy consumption and overall cost. They are being seen in headlight lighting, and they are found utilized in many non traditional automotive ways, such as lighting the undercarriage of vehicles including motorcycles. In the home you can find recessed lighting, track lighting, and under cabinet lighting that is as esthetically pleasing to look at as it is functional.

As technology continues to advance and costs continue to fall the unions such as electric vehicles and LED lights are becoming more of a likely marriage. It only takes a careful and watchful eye to the future to understand that these technologies are the next evolution of the automotive and lighting industries.
